Zone3 are proud to be a multi-sports brand and our name reflects this – not only does Zone3 signify the three physical disciplines within a triathlon, but it also represents the mental toughness and focus an athlete possesses when they are ‘in the zone’ during a race.
What does 'in the Zone' mean? It's the terminology used when you are in racing mode. In the 'Zone' you are powerful, controlled, focused and striving to complete a new challenge; whether this is completing a triathlon for the first time, achieving a new PR or beating a fellow competitor.
We launched our first wetsuit in 2009, following several years of research and development by elite athletes at Loughborough University; one of Europe’s leading sports research facilities. We’ve come a long way since then and have developed to cater for every aspect of the triathlete's wardrobe. From wetsuits and tri apparel, to swimwear and accessories, for beginners all the way through to Pro Ironman athletes and Olympians.
The company was built with the athlete in mind right from the very start and this 'product first' philosophy ensures that the customer is always getting the best performing product, whether it’s for training, racing or leisure. We know how important even the smallest of details are and the extreme equipment needs to perform.
We don’t only use sports technology and lab testing but, more importantly, listen to customers and use their feedback to further improve the range. Every fabric and panel is carefully selected and designed to maximise the customer experience and thanks to this attention to detail, we have become the number one selling triathlon brand in the UK and one of the fastest growing in Europe and North America.
The brand was started by former Pro athlete James Lock in 2007, to support his triathlon career during this time. James was a national standard Collegiate swimmer and runner, and won the World Aquathlon (swim/run) Championships before starting a full triathlon scholarship at Loughborough University. His strength in the water was clear and he would lead a number of the swims from the front, even beating 2 x Olympic Gold Medalist Alistair Brownlee out of the water on several occasions.
After graduating with first class honors in engineering, James started to race at elite level in triathlon, whilst also building on his business ideas. With an in depth knowledge of the triathlon world, James looked to design a range of products that would not only fund the costs of competing as a Pro, but also increase his performance to be top of the podium.
Loughborough University was the perfect place to set out designing world class sports products and a huge amount of testing with elite and amateur athletes was done before the first Zone3 range was released in 2009.
The hard work paid off when, in the first year of trading, the Vanquish wetsuit got a 9/10 review in 220 Triathlon magazine. Subsequently, in 2010 the Aspire wetsuit got a 10/10 review; the only wetsuit to ever receive a 100% score. Since then we’ve won global industry leading awards, including 'Best Wetsuit' and 'Best Goggles' in Triathlete Magazine's Buyers Guide. There is no higher accolade.
